Dongbei University of Finance & Economics (DUFE) is co-administered by the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Education (MOE), and the People’s Government of Liaoning Province. Designated a key university in Liaoning Province’s First-Class University Construction Initiative at both the provincial and national levels, DUFE is renowned for its distinctive strengths in finance and economics, supported by coordinated multidisciplinary development. It has nearly 17,000 students and more than 1,600 faculty members, including 51 recipients of national-level talent awards and honorary titles. DUFE’s academic excellence places it among the top-notch finance and economics universities in China. It houses 3 national key disciplines, 1 national key discipline under cultivation, and 31 first-class undergraduate programs (25 national, 6 provincial) under the MOE’s “Double Ten-Thousand Plan”. DUFE’s research strength is demonstrated by its success in securing 35 major National Social Science Fund projects awarded over 16 consecutive years. It also hosts over 50 national/provincial-level think tanks and other high-level research platforms. Committed to becoming a first-class, digital finance and economics university, DUFE has earned widespread recognition and numerous accolades from national and provincial authorities.
DUFE is located in Dalian, a renowned coastal city in Liaoning Province. Covering 60 hectares (600,000 square meters), the university boasts a picturesque campus and has been awarded the titles of “Liaoning’s Most Beautiful Campus” and “Liaoning Provincial Civilized Campus.”
Since the 1980s, DUFE has continuously expanded and deepened its global engagement by pursuing high standards of internationalization. To date, it has built an extensive cooperative network encompassing over 140 higher education institutions across 28 countries and regions, alongside 8 international organizations. Of these partnerships, more than 50 are long-term and stable. A flagship of this global engagement is the Surrey International Institute (SII), a Chinese-foreign cooperative education institution that offers full-time undergraduate programs delivering a “study-abroad” experience on DUFE’s campus. The university also operates four MOE-approved cooperative programs in collaboration with Western University (Canada), Curtin University (Australia), and the University of Ulster (UK). In advancing global education, DUFE has co-established Confucius institutes with partner universities in the Netherlands and Slovakia respectively. Furthermore, it not only houses China’s first research center dedicated to Chinese-foreign cooperative education institutions, but also stands as the first university in China to participate in and obtain the “Chinese-Foreign Cooperative Education Quality Certification”. In 2014, DUFE initiated the Joint Conference on Chinese-Foreign Cooperative Education. Additionally, in partnership with the China Service Center for Scholarly Exchange (CSCSE), it operates a dedicated training base for overseas studies to deliver cross-border education programs.
Adhering to its motto of “Broaden Intellectual Horizon and Contribute to Social Well-being”, DUFE remains committed to taking root in Liaoning, serving the whole nation, and expanding its global presence. Following the six development strategies steadfastly—putting talent cultivation at the core, bolstering discipline-led development, revitalizing the university through talent development, upholding quality as a priority, promoting openness and collaboration, and advancing characteristic development—DUFE is striding forward towards its vision of becoming a world-renowned, high-level research university with distinctive strengths in finance and economics.
