Founded in 1952, Dongbei University of Finance & Economics (DUFE) was formerly known as Dongbei Institute of Finance and Economics. In 1981, it became one of China’s first universities authorized to confer master’s degrees. It adopted its current name in 1985 and gained doctoral degree-granting authority the following year. In 2000, DUFE’s administration was transferred from the Ministry of Finance to the People’s Government of Liaoning Province, initiating a new system of “joint administration by central and local governments, with the latter assuming the primary role.” In 2012, DUFE became co-administered by the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Education, and the People’s Government of Liaoning Province. In 2019, DUFE was designated a key university in Liaoning Province’s “National First-Class University Construction Initiative.”
